Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Animately, Inc. ("Animately", "we", "us") collects when you use animately.co and the Animately web app (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions are welcome at lachlan@animately.com.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account we collect your email address and login credentials. Authentication is handled by our infrastructure provider, Supabase. We also keep a record of the credits attached to your account.
Files you process
The GIFs and videos you load into our tools are yours. How they are handled depends on the engine doing the work:
- Analysis of your file (measuring its visual features to predict compression results) runs inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded for analysis.
- The default free compression engine also runs inside your browser. Files compressed with it do not leave your device.
- The premium compression engine and multi-version preview processing run on our servers. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing infrastructure (hosted on Amazon Web Services), compressed there, and the result is returned to you. Files sent for processing are kept only as long as needed to deliver your result and are not used for anything else.
Payment information
Credit purchases are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We keep records of your transactions (what you bought and when) but not your card number.
Usage information
We collect information about how the Service is used: pages visited, features used, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies. Our product analytics may include session replays (recordings of how the Service was used in your browser session) to help us find and fix usability problems.
How we use information
- To provide the Service: process your files, manage your account, and deliver credits you purchase.
- To improve the Service: understand which features work, find bugs, and fix errors.
- To support you: respond when you contact us through chat or email.
- To keep the Service secure: detect abuse, fraud, and technical failures.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your files to train machine learning models on your content.
Services we share data with
We use a small set of service providers to run Animately. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase - authentication and application data
- Amazon Web Services - file processing and storage for the premium engine
- Stripe - payment processing
- PostHog - product analytics and session replay
- Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager - website analytics
- Ahrefs Analytics - website analytics
- Intercom - support chat and messages
- Sentry - error monitoring
- Webflow - website hosting
We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy continues to apply to your information).
Cookies and your choices
Cookies and similar technologies keep you signed in and power the analytics described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; core parts of the Service will still work, though you may need to sign in again. Most of the analytics tools we use also honor their own opt-out mechanisms.
International transfers
Our service providers operate in the United States and other countries. When your information is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses.
Retention
We keep account information for as long as your account exists. Files sent to our servers for premium processing are kept only as long as needed to deliver your result. Analytics and error data are kept according to each provider's retention settings, after which they are deleted or aggregated.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, email lachlan@animately.com. If you are in the EU, UK, or Australia, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data moves between you and the Service over encrypted connections, and we limit access to personal information to what operating the Service requires. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it here and adjust the effective date above. Material changes will be flagged more prominently on the site.
